I am Maria Radewahn – the creative mind behind design craft. Already during my studies as a product designer, my interest in traditional craft techniques awoke.
When I was researching my thesis in South Tyrol a few years ago, I got to know traditional handicraft techniques up close and tested on site. My main interest was the production of natural sheep wool felt. A farmer’s wife instructed me in the manufacturing technology of wet felting. This experience was a key experience for me.
It was a wonderful collaboration with two South Tyrolean farmers, which lasts until today. The idea to found a label for bags and accessories made of wool felt and other natural materials was born.
Combining modern design with traditional knowledge and traditional craftsmanship is my main concern as a designer. In addition to the material felt, I use other materials such as wood for carving to enhance my collections.
I want to inspire you with my products. Each piece is carefully and environmentally friendly produced. It works according to ecologically, economically and socially acceptable principles. The collections are both sustainable and fashionable.
INTERMEDIATE BETWEEN CRAFTS AND DESIGN
I see myself as an interface between design and craft. Already with the designs I include the skills of the craftsmen and craftsmen. The result is products with elements from both worlds – tradition and modernity. Valuable knowledge and skills are preserved for us and future generations. The network of my cooperation partners includes people from different fields of craftsmanship – currently from Germany and South Tyrol. The high-quality implementation enables high-quality, durable products.
